Description
Champagne Laherte Frères Rosé de Meunier is a rosé built entirely from Pinot Meunier, vinified three separate ways and blended.
Laherte Frères is based at Chavot in the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay, a corner of Champagne where Meunier is the traditional workhorse and the chalk sits close to the surface. Around 60% of this blend comes from fruit pressed straight off as a white wine, and over a third of that component is reserve wine aged in barrel. A further 30% was made as a saignée, the juice drawn off after a short period on skins, and the final 10% is a fully made red wine. The white-wine component comes from vines averaging 25 years; the red and saignée parcels are more than 40 years old. The base wines fermented and aged in a mix of vat, foudre and old demi-muid before bottling for the second fermentation. This release blends a 2021 base with reserve wines from 2019 and 2020, and was disgorged in September 2024 with 2.5 g/L dosage.
Ready now and holding for three or four years. Serve at about 8°C with charcuterie, roast duck breast or a bowl of cherries.
