Description
Champagne Laherte Frères Rosé de Meunier is a rosé built entirely from Pinot Meunier, vinified three separate ways and then blended.
Laherte Frères is a grower house at Chavot in the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay, a sector planted more heavily to Meunier than to Chardonnay or Pinot Noir. Aurélien Laherte treats the variety as a serious grape rather than a blending filler, and this cuvée is the clearest demonstration. Around 60 per cent of the volume is pressed off as white wine, with more than a third of that component drawn from reserve wines aged in barrel; 30 per cent is made as a saignée rosé; and the final 10 per cent is a fully vinified red. The white component comes from vines averaging 25 years, the red and rosé parcels from vines over 40 years old. Fermentation and ageing take place across vat, foudre and old demi-muid before bottling for the second fermentation. This release is half 2022 and half reserve wine from 2021 and 2020, disgorged in December 2024 with 2.5 g/L dosage.
Drinking now and over the next three to four years. Serve at about 8°C as an aperitif, or with charcuterie, salmon tartare or duck rillettes.
