Champagne Laherte Frères Ultradition, in magnum, is the house’s Meunier-led extra-brut from organically and biodynamically farmed parcels.

Laherte Frères draw this cuvée from seven parcels across the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay and the Vallée de la Marne, namely Chavot, Mancy, Morangis, Le Breuil, Boursault, Moussy and Vaudancourt, where the vines average thirty years and the fruit is farmed both organically and biodynamically. The blend is sixty per cent Meunier, thirty per cent Chardonnay and ten per cent Pinot Noir, with two reserve vintages making up forty per cent of the whole and sixty per cent of the material barrel-aged. Aurélien Laherte ferments naturally in a mixture of vessels, including two fifty-hectolitre Rousseau tronconique casks, old barrels, foudre and concrete, keeping the wines on lees throughout, with malolactic conversion partly completed at around sixty to seventy per cent. This magnum is a 2018 base, disgorged in May 2022 at 4.5 g/L, and carries the label by artist Hanna Albrektson.

Ready now and, in magnum, good for another five or six years. Serve at 8°C with charcuterie, roast pork or a mushroom tart.
