Champagne Laherte Frères Ultradition is a Meunier-led grower Champagne from the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay, offered here in a 375ml half-bottle.

Ultradition is the house's foundation wine, drawn from seven parcels across the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay and the Vallée de la Marne — Chavot, Mancy, Morangis, Le Breuil, Boursault, Moussy and Vaudancourt — all farmed organically and biodynamically, with vines averaging 30 years. The blend is 60 per cent Meunier, 30 per cent Chardonnay and 10 per cent Pinot Noir, and 40 per cent of the volume is reserve wine drawn from two earlier vintages, with 60 per cent barrel-aged material. Aurélien Laherte ferments naturally in a mixture of vessels, including two 50-hectolitre Rousseau tronconique casks, old barrels, foudre and concrete, always keeping the wines on lees, with malolactic fermentation only partly completed. This release is based on 2018 with reserves from 2017 and 2016, disgorged at 4.5 g/L. The label is by the artist Hanna Albrektson.

Ready now, and the half-bottle format suits early drinking. Serve at 8°C as an aperitif, or with charcuterie, roast chicken or fish and chips.
