Description
Champagne Laherte Frères Ultradition, in this 2020-based release, is a Meunier-led Champagne made from biodynamically grown fruit across seven parcels.
Laherte Frères works the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay and the Vallée de la Marne, country where Meunier has always been the dominant planting, and Ultradition is the house’s clearest expression of it. The blend is 60 per cent Meunier, 30 per cent Chardonnay and 10 per cent Pinot Noir, drawn from seven parcels at Chavot, Mancy, Morangis, Le Breuil, Boursault, Moussy and Vaudancourt, where the average vine age is 30 years and the farming is biodynamic. Aurélien Laherte ferments the juice naturally across two 50-hectolitre Rousseau tronconique casks, old barrels, foudre and concrete, with around 60 per cent of the blend barrel-aged; whatever the vessel the wines stay on lees, and malolactic conversion is only partly completed. This bottling is based on 2020 with 40 per cent reserve wine from 2019 and 2018, disgorged at 4.5 g/L, which is extra brut.
Ready now and will hold three to four years. Serve at 8°C as an aperitif, or with oysters, roast chicken or charcuterie.
