Champagne Laherte Frères Ultradition is a Meunier-led grower Champagne drawn from eight parcels across the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay and the Vallée de la Marne.

Laherte Frères farms in the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay, a stretch of the Marne where Pinot Meunier is the traditional mainstay rather than an afterthought, and Aurelien Laherte has built the estate's reputation on treating it seriously. Ultradition is the house's introductory cuvée and blends 60 per cent Meunier, 30 per cent Chardonnay and 10 per cent Pinot Noir, a mix that reflects the estate's plantings. Around 40 per cent of the blend is reserve wine from the two preceding vintages. The juice ferments naturally in a mixture of vessels, including two 50-hectolitre Rousseau tronconique casks, old barrels, foudre and concrete, and every lot is aged on lees, with partial malolactic conversion of roughly 60 to 70 per cent. This release is based on the 2021 harvest with reserves from 2020 and 2019, disgorged in February 2024 at 4.5 grams per litre, an extra brut dosage.

Drink now or hold a few years, with oysters, fried chicken or a plate of charcuterie. Serve at around 8 degrees.
