Description
Champagne Laherte Frères Ultradition is a Meunier-led grower Champagne built from eight parcels across two districts.
Laherte Frères is a grower house at Chavot in the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay, where Aurélien Laherte works a large number of small parcels. Ultradition is the entry point to the range, drawn from eight sites across the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay and the Vallée de la Marne, and the blend of sixty per cent Meunier, thirty per cent Chardonnay and ten per cent Pinot Noir reflects the estate's plantings. Around forty per cent of the wine is now reserve material from the two preceding harvests. The juice ferments naturally in a mixture of vessels, including two fifty-hectolitre Rousseau tronconique casks, old barrels, foudre and concrete, and is always aged on lees regardless of vessel, with malolactic conversion running to roughly sixty or seventy per cent. This bottling was disgorged with a dosage of 4.5 g/L, which places it in extra brut territory.
Drinking well now and good for a few years yet. Serve at around 8°C with charcuterie, roast chicken or a mushroom tart.
