Champagne Laherte Frères Ultradition is a Meunier-led Champagne drawn from eight parcels across the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay and the Vallée de la Marne.

Laherte Frères is a grower house at Chavot, south of Épernay, in country where Meunier rather than Chardonnay or Pinot Noir has long dominated the plantings. Ultradition is the estate’s entry point and its clearest statement of that: 60 per cent Meunier, 30 per cent Chardonnay and 10 per cent Pinot Noir, taken from eight parcels and reflecting the spread of the family’s vineyards. Around 40 per cent of the blend now comes from the two preceding vintages. Aurélien Laherte ferments the juice naturally across a mixture of vessels — two 50-hectolitre Rousseau tronconique casks, old barrels, foudre and concrete — and whatever the vessel the wines stay on lees, with malolactic conversion run only partially, generally 60 to 70 per cent. This bottling is based on 2021 with reserve wines from 2020 and 2019, disgorged with 4.5 g/L dosage, which places it in extra brut.

Ready now and will hold three to four years. Serve at 8°C as an aperitif, or alongside roast chicken, charcuterie or a mushroom tart.
