Champagne Laherte Frères Ultradition is the house’s Meunier-led entry cuvée, drawn from eight parcels across the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay and the Vallée de la Marne.

Laherte Frères farms at Chavot, in a sector of the Marne where Meunier dominates the plantings, and Ultradition is built to reflect the estate’s vineyard mix rather than a house style imposed over it: 60 per cent Meunier, 30 per cent Chardonnay and 10 per cent Pinot Noir. Around 40 per cent of the blend now comes from the two preceding harvests. The juice ferments naturally across a range of vessels, including two 50-hectolitre Rousseau tronconique casks, old barrels, foudre and concrete, and whatever the vessel the wines are always aged on lees. Malolactic conversion is partial, generally 60 to 70 per cent. This bottling is based on the 2022 harvest with 40 per cent reserve wine from 2021 and 2020, and was disgorged with 4.5 g/L dosage, within extra-brut limits.

Ready on release and holding for three or four years. Serve at about 8°C as an aperitif, or with fish and chips, roast chicken or a soft cheese.
