Description
Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Longitude, here in magnum, is a Côte des Blancs blanc de blancs drawn from sites with thin topsoil over chalk.
Longitude is all Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs, with fruit from Cramant, Avize, Oger and Vertus. Where the domaine’s Latitude comes from deeper soils, the Longitude vineyards carry only a thin layer of topsoil, so the roots run straight into the chalk bedrock. The name points both to the north-south run of those villages and to the shape of the wine: where Latitude spreads across the palate, Longitude is linear, mineral and taut. A high proportion of reserve wine is used, forty per cent drawn from a perpetual reserve begun in 2004, which gives the blend depth without softening its line. This bottling is based on the 2018 harvest and was disgorged in May 2023. The magnum format keeps the wine fresher for longer and makes it a useful bottle for a table of six or more.
Drinking well now and worth holding for five years or more in magnum. Serve at 8°C with oysters, tempura prawns or a plate of sashimi.
