Description
Longitude is Larmandier-Bernier's premier cru blanc de blancs, a Chardonnay Champagne drawn from vineyards strung along a single north-south line of the Côte des Blancs.
The Larmandier family is based at Vertus, at the southern end of the Côte des Blancs, the chalk escarpment south of Épernay that produces Champagne's finest Chardonnay. The name Longitude refers to the alignment of the sites that make up the blend, which run from Vertus north through Cramant, Chouilly, Avize and Oger, so the wine gathers several expressions of the same chalk. It is made in the house manner, with slow, natural fermentation, ageing in a combination of large oak and tank, and an extended stay on lees in bottle. Dosage is very low, in keeping with the estate's preference for letting the chalk and the fruit speak without sweetening.
Ready now and will develop with a few years in bottle; serve at about 8°C with oysters, scallops or a mild soft cheese.
