Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Longitude is a Blanc de Blancs from Côte des Blancs sites whose thin topsoils put the vine roots straight into chalk.

Larmandier-Bernier is based at Vertus in the Côte des Blancs and farms biodynamically, with Pierre Larmandier at the helm. Longitude is drawn entirely from Chardonnay in Cramant, Avize, Oger and Vertus, and its counterpart in the range is Latitude. The difference between them is geological rather than stylistic ambition: the Longitude vineyards carry thinner topsoils, so the roots plunge directly into the chalky bedrock. The name refers both to the north-south run of those sites and to the vertical, linear shape of the wine that results. Where Latitude spreads across the palate, Longitude is about line, tension and mineral drive. Reserve wines make up a high proportion of the blend, around forty per cent, which adds depth without softening that shape. William Kelley has called it one of the finest non-vintage bottlings to be found in Champagne.

Drinking well now and rewarding several years in bottle. Serve at around 8°C with oysters, scallops or a simple roast chicken.
