Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Longitude carries forty per cent reserve wine drawn from a perpetual reserve begun in 2004.

Pierre Larmandier farms biodynamically from Vertus, at the southern end of the Côte des Blancs. Longitude is Chardonnay alone, from Cramant, Avize, Oger and Vertus, and it is the counterpart to the estate's Latitude. What separates the two is soil depth: the Longitude parcels carry thinner topsoils, so the vine roots plunge straight into the chalky bedrock beneath. The name points both to the geography of those sites and to the vertical, linear shape of the resulting wine, which is all minerality, line and raciness where Latitude spreads across the palate. The reserve component is substantial and comes from a perpetual reserve started in 2004, which lends the cuvée depth without blunting its tension. William Kelley has called this one of the finest non-vintage bottlings to be found in Champagne.

Drinking well now and rewarding several years in the cellar. Serve at around 8°C with oysters, sashimi or roast chicken.
