Description
Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Terre de Vertus, in magnum, is a non-dosé premier cru blanc de blancs from the chalky mid-slope of Vertus.
Terre de Vertus is the best known of the three single-terroir Blanc de Blancs made at this biodynamic domaine. It comes from a parcel on the chalky mid-slope of Vertus, at the southern end of the Côte des Blancs, running across the premier cru lieux-dits of Les Barillers and Les Faucherets. These sites give intensely mineral wines that can recall the best of Le Mesnil to the north in their raciness and drive. The wine ferments naturally, roughly sixty per cent in neutral barrique and forty per cent in large Stockinger casks, with malolactic conversion beginning spontaneously, and rests on its natural lees for close to a year. After the second fermentation it ages a further six years in bottle. There is no dosage at disgorgement, a decision the family took in the mid-1990s, long before it became common, because this terroir works best without additions. This magnum was disgorged in September 2021.
Ready now and, in magnum, likely to develop for another decade. Serve at 8°C with oysters, roast turbot or a plate of aged comté.
