Champagne Larmandier-Bernier 1er Cru Terre de Vertus Blanc de Blancs is a single-parcel, zero-dosage Champagne that has been made without sugar since the mid-1990s.

Vertus sits at the southern end of the Côte des Blancs, where the chalk runs deep and the wines lean toward raciness rather than breadth. Terre de Vertus is the best known of the three single-terroir Blanc de Blancs made at this biodynamic estate, from vines on the chalky mid-slope traversing the premier cru lieux-dits Les Barillers and Les Faucherets. Fermentation was natural, with about 60% in neutral barrique and the remainder in large Stockinger casks; malolactic conversion began spontaneously and the wine rested nearly a year on lees before bottling. After the second fermentation it aged a further six years on cork. No dosage is added, a decision the family took long before it became fashionable, on the view that this terroir, farmed their way, works best without additions. Disgorged March 2022.

Youthful now and rewarding for a decade or more. Serve at 8°C with oysters, sashimi or a plate of hard cheese.
