Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Grand Cru Vieille Vigne du Levant 2011 Disg. Nov 2020

Vieille Vigne du Levant is Larmandier-Bernier's old-vine grand cru blanc de blancs from Cramant, disgorged after some eight years on lees.

This wine was historically labelled Vieille Vigne de Cramant; nothing has changed but the name, which now points to Bourron du Levant, the vineyard that supplies the majority of the fruit and where the vines were planted in 1960. The balance comes from a half-hectare holding in the neighbouring terroir of Le Fond du Bâteau, with vines of seventy-five years. Both plots sit in the heart of Cramant's southeast-facing slopes, on the flanks of the Butte de Saran, on some of the deepest chalk in the Côte des Blancs. Winemaking matches the estate's other single-terroir wines: natural fermentation and malolactic fermentation, 12 months in large Stockinger barrels, and no fining or filtration. This cuvée then spends at least five years on lees in bottle, and this release was disgorged with only two grams of dosage.

Drinking well now with years of development ahead; serve at about 8°C with oysters, roast turbot or a hard alpine cheese.
