Description

Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Latitude Blanc de Blancs is a single-village blanc de blancs drawn entirely from the southern side of Vertus.

Vertus sits at the southern end of the Côte des Blancs, where the chalk carries more clay than it does further north around Cramant and Avize. Larmandier-Bernier takes the name Latitude from the fact that the parcels behind it sit at roughly the same latitude on that southern flank, and the extra clay is what gives the wine its breadth of texture. The base is the 2019 harvest, disgorged in December 2021. In the cellar the house works mostly with large-format casks, almost all of them now made by Stockinger in Austria. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations run naturally and the wine is not filtered. Bottles spend more than two years on lees, are disgorged by hand and dosed at extra-brut level, here four grams per litre, at least six months before release.

Drinking well now and capable of another five to seven years in bottle. Serve at 8°C with oysters, sashimi or a plate of aged Comté.
