Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Latitude Blanc de Blancs NV Base 19. Disg. May 2022

Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Latitude is a Blanc de Blancs from the southern, clay-influenced side of Vertus in the Côte des Blancs.

Vertus sits at the southern end of the Côte des Blancs, and the vineyards behind this cuvée all lie at much the same latitude on the south side of the village, which gives the wine its name. Their soils carry more clay than the chalk further north, and that clay accounts for the breadth of texture Latitude offers. Larmandier-Bernier works its own vines and handles the wine mostly in large-format casks, almost all of them now from Stockinger in Austria. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations proceed naturally, and the wine is not filtered. Bottles mature for more than two years, are disgorged by hand and dosed at extra-brut level, in this case 4 g/L, a minimum of six months before release. This bottling is based on the 2019 harvest and was disgorged in May 2022.

Drinking well now and will hold three to four years. Serve at 8°C as an aperitif, or with oysters, terrine or a lemon roast chicken.
