Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Latitude Blanc de Blancs is Chardonnay drawn only from the southern side of Vertus, at the foot of the Côte des Blancs.

The vineyards behind this cuvée all sit on roughly the same latitude on the southern flank of Vertus, which is where the name comes from; it also hints at the breadth of texture these sites give, their soils carrying more clay than the pure chalk further north. Set against the house’s Longitude, Latitude is the wine built on volume rather than vertical drive. Cellar work relies mostly on large-format casks, almost all the wood now coming from Stockinger in Austria. Fermentation and malolactic conversion happen naturally, and there is no filtration. Bottles mature for more than two years, are disgorged by hand and dosed at extra-brut level, 3 g/L in this case, at least six months before release. The bottling rests on the 2021 harvest with 40 per cent reserve wine from a perpetual reserve begun in 2004, and was disgorged in February 2024.

Drinking well now and holding four or five years. Serve at about 8°C with lemon chicken, a fish terrine or most cheeses short of blue.
