Description
Champagne Leclerc Briant 'Les Basses Prières Millésime' is a vintage, single parcel Champagne from Cumières, the Marne valley village at the heart of the house's history.
Cumières faces due south across the Marne, on slopes steep enough that the village has long been known for ripening Pinot Noir more fully than most of the valley. Leclerc Briant has worked here since its founding in 1872 and it remains the emotional home of the estate, even though the cellars are now in Épernay. The house holds organic and biodynamic certification and applies the same restraint to its single parcel wines as to its blends: indigenous yeasts, minimal sulphur, no unnecessary intervention and a very low dosage. Bottling one parcel from one year runs against Champagne's blending tradition, which is precisely the point.
Serve at around 10 to 12 degrees in a white wine glass, with roast poultry, pork or mushroom dishes; it is a Champagne for the table rather than the apéritif hour.
