Champagne Leclerc Briant Millésime Blanc des Blancs 2018

Champagne Leclerc Briant Millésime Blanc des Blancs is a vintage Champagne made solely from Chardonnay, from a house that has farmed biodynamically since long before it was fashionable.

A blanc de blancs is Champagne made from white grapes alone, which in practice almost always means Chardonnay, and a vintage bottling comes from the fruit of a single declared year rather than a blend across harvests. Leclerc Briant traces back to 1872 and now works out of Épernay, with holdings in and around Cumières in the Vallée de la Marne. The estate is certified organic and biodynamic, ferments with indigenous yeasts, keeps sulphur to a minimum and finishes its wines with very little dosage. Extended ageing on lees before disgorgement gives the Chardonnay the weight it needs to stand without that cushion of sugar.

Serve at around 10 degrees in a white wine glass, with oysters, grilled prawns, sushi or a plate of hard cheese.
