Description
Champagne Mouzon Leroux L'Ineffable Blanc de Noirs is a zero-dosage Pinot Noir drawn from the heavier clay valleys of Verzy.
Verzy is a Grand Cru on the eastern flank of the Montagne de Reims, and Mouzon-Leroux divides its holdings there by valley. L'Ineffable is the sibling of the Angélique, but where that wine comes from the first valley, this one is sourced from between four and eight sites in the second and third valleys, the number varying with the year. Those soils carry a heavier clay component while remaining rich in the limestone and flint that mark Verzy out. The wine is entirely Pinot Noir, spends sixty months on lees in used French oak, and is bottled with zero dosage. The style is perfumed rather than broad, with red fruit and wild floral character, a rocky mineral thread and firm, driving acidity through a chalky finish.
Drinking well now and worth further age, it suits duck, roast pork or a mature hard cheese. Serve at 8°C.
