Champagne Pascal Agrapart Grand Cru Complantée comes from a single Avize parcel co-planted with six varieties, including the near-forgotten Arbane and Petit Meslier.

Complanter means to plant together, and the practice of interplanting varieties in one parcel and picking them at the same time was once common in Champagne. Agrapart's parcel lies in La Fosse à Bull, part of the Fosse vineyard that also gives the Vénus cuvée, and carries Pinot Noir, Meunier, Chardonnay, Arbane, Petit Meslier and Pinot Blanc. Chardonnay accounts for a quarter of the planting, with the other five varieties splitting the remainder evenly. The current release is based on the 2021 harvest with 20 per cent reserve wine from 2020. As Ambroise Agrapart puts it, the fruit is grown together, picked together, pressed together and made together: hand-harvested, co-fermented, barrel-aged and bottled without filtration. The wine rested just over two years on lees and was dosed at less than 5 g/L.

An unusual and savoury Champagne, drinking now and good for five years; serve with roast chicken, charcuterie or hard cheese at about 8°C.
