Description
The Clos des Goisses L.V. is a late-disgorged release from Philipponnat's extended-ageing programme, held back for roughly a quarter of a century on lees.
Clos des Goisses is a walled, south-facing site at Mareuil-sur-Aÿ that falls steeply towards the Marne, the first vineyard in Champagne to be bottled on its own. Its chalk soils and unusually warm mesoclimate make one of the region's most powerful wines, and it is widely accepted that the wine needs at least ten to fifteen years before it shows its full character. For more than two decades Philipponnat has held back a portion of each harvest for later release, and the L.V., or Long Vieillissement, range now formalises that as an annual release alongside the current vintage. This is maturation on lees rather than a wine cellared after disgorgement. The blend is 59 per cent Pinot Noir and 41 per cent Chardonnay, vinified by Charles Philipponnat in his first year at the house and aged in the Caveau du Trésor. It is presented in a solid oak box.
Ready to drink now and best served in a white wine glass at around 8-10°C, with roast chicken, game birds or aged hard cheeses.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
