Description
Champagne Suenen Le Mont-Aigu is a blanc de blancs made in a single 600-litre demi-muid from very low-yielding vines in Chouilly.
Le Mont-Aigu lies near the Cramant border on the Butte de Saran, at the northern end of the Côte des Blancs, and is among the most highly regarded terroirs in the grand cru of Chouilly. Suenen's parcel is more than 45 years old and affected by fanleaf virus, which produces tiny leaves, roots and bunches; combined with skeletal soils of just 35 centimetres of topsoil over pure chalk, the effect is a compact and deeply concentrated reading of the village unlike any other. The base wine fermented naturally and aged nine months in a single Stockinger barrel, then spent more than five years in bottle before disgorgement in June 2023. Following the estate's standard dosage trial it was finished at 5 g/L. Just 860 bottles were made.
Rewarding now and capable of a decade in bottle. Serve at around 8°C with roast chicken, lobster or grilled prawns.
