Description
Champagne Suenen Grand Cru Cramant Blanc de Blancs Les Robarts is a single-lieu-dit Champagne from old Chardonnay on the Cramant side of a vineyard shared with Avize.
Les Robarts straddles the boundary between Avize and Cramant in the Côte des Blancs, and the Avize side is one of the sources for Pascal Agrapart's Avizoise. Aurélien Suenen's vines lie just across the line at the top of a small hill in Cramant. The oldest were planted in 1952, with further plantings in 1978, 1984 and 2005, bringing the average age close to forty years, and a large share are massal selections. Suenen describes the terroir as 30 centimetres of silty clay over degraded upper Campanian chalk, combining the tension and salinity of Oiry with the concentration of Chouilly. The wine was raised nine months in a single Rousseau foudre, then spent a minimum of five years on lees before disgorgement in June 2022, with dosage at 3 g/L.
Ready now and capable of another decade in bottle; serve at 8°C with scallops, raw fish or roast poultry.
