Champagne Suenen Oiry Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru, here in magnum, is one of the only wines on the market made purely from the grand cru village of Oiry.

Oiry sits at the northern end of the Côte des Blancs and is the least known of its grand crus, its vines rooted in compact white Campanian chalk at the base of the slope where topsoil is thin and bedrock close. Aurélien Suenen draws this wine from 1.5 hectares split across five parcels, from Le Champ Braux planted in 1955 to La Cocluette planted in 1987 and 1999, giving an average vine age of around 45 years. The release is based on the 2020 harvest with 25% reserve wine from 2013 to 2019. The base wine fermented naturally and spent nine months in enamelled tank, for half the blend, and well-seasoned Burgundy barrels and demi-muids for the rest, before around thirty months on lees in bottle. Suenen describes the house character as tonic, tense and saline rather than broad.

The magnum format will reward five to ten years' further cellaring and suits oysters, sashimi or a plate of jamón. Serve at about 8°C.
