Champagne Suenen Oiry Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru La Cocluette 2016 Disg. Jul 2022

Champagne Suenen La Cocluette is a grand cru blanc de blancs from the domaine's oldest vines, planted at Oiry in 1925.

Oiry is the least known of the Côte des Blancs grand crus, and Suenen is one of very few growers to bottle it on its own. La Cocluette is the most northerly of the domaine's Oiry parcels and home to those 1925 plantings, whose roots run deep into dense Campanian chalk; younger vines on the same site go into the village Oiry blanc de blancs. Vines of this age are rare in Champagne and give tiny crops of concentrated fruit. The land is largely flat with a slightly northern aspect. The base wine fermented naturally and aged nine months in one 700-litre concrete egg and one 600-litre Stockinger barrel, then rested on lees in bottle for 60 months until disgorgement in July 2022, when it was dosed at 3 grams per litre. The harvest here produced fewer than 2,000 bottles.

Approachable now, with a decade of development ahead. Serve at 8°C alongside oysters, king crab or a plate of raw fish.
