Champagne Vouette et Sorbée Textures NV Base 20, Disg. Oct 2022

Textures is a rare 100% Pinot Blanc Champagne from Vouette et Sorbée, raised in buried Georgian amphorae as well as barrel.

The fruit comes from the Fonnet vineyard in the Côte des Bar, planted between 1995 and 2000. Bertrand Gautherot describes Textures as his most approachable wine in youth, with a fleshier feel and more open fruit than his Blanc d'Argile, though no shortage of intensity or poise. The grapes ferment and are raised for roughly nine months in large buried Georgian amphorae, used oak barrels and a pair of Italian dolia, the round earthenware pots used in Italy for the same purpose. The bulbous amphorae, made by the last Georgian family working in that shape, give the lees contact and minimal oxidation Gautherot is after. A portion of the fruit macerates and ferments on skins. After blending, the wine spends around 18 months on lees in bottle. The cuvée is being discontinued, as the vineyard behind it has returned to Gautherot's brother.

Drinking well now and over the next few years; serve at around 8°C with sashimi, pork rillettes or a soft washed-rind cheese.
