Charles Melton Sparkling Red NV

Charles Melton Sparkling Red is a traditional-method Australian sparkling red blended from Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache from multiple years.

Charles Melton is a family winery at Krondorf near Tanunda in the Barossa, founded by Graeme 'Charlie' Melton and known for Grenache-based wines and its much-loved Rose of Virginia. Sparkling red is a uniquely Australian style, and Charles Melton makes its version from Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache grown at Krondorf and Rowland Flat on the Barossa Valley floor. The base wines from several harvests are blended together to build complexity, then given their second fermentation in bottle by the traditional method, spending an extended period on lees before disgorgement. The wine is sealed with a crown seal, and the blending of multiple years gives a layered, savoury depth rather than simple fruit.

Rich yet lively, it is a classic partner for roast turkey or ham at Christmas, as well as duck and barbecued meats; serve lightly chilled at around 12 degrees.
