Charles Melton Voices of Angels 2021

Charles Melton Voices of Angels is a cool-climate Adelaide Hills Shiraz co-fermented with a small proportion of Riesling.

Charles Melton is a family winery on Krondorf Road in the Barossa Valley, founded in 1984 by Graeme 'Charlie' Melton and run with his wife Virginia. Voices of Angels looks beyond the Barossa to the Adelaide Hills, a higher, cooler region in the Mount Lofty Ranges where Shiraz ripens slowly and retains natural acidity and a peppery, spicy character. The wine is Shiraz co-fermented with around 5.5% Riesling, a technique borrowed from the Côte-Rôtie tradition of fermenting Syrah with a little white grape, which helps stabilise colour and adds aromatic lift. The result is a finer, more perfumed style of Shiraz than the estate's Barossa wines. It is matured in oak and bottled under screwcap.

An elegant, medium-bodied Shiraz to serve with duck, roast pork or mushroom dishes, at around 16 degrees.
