Description
Chartogne-Taillet Hors Série is a blanc de blancs from seven Avize plots, disgorged in May 2025 with 2.6 grams per litre of dosage.
Everything else in the Chartogne-Taillet range comes from Merfy, on the northern edge of Champagne. Hors Série is the exception, drawn from the Côte des Blancs, and for this release the fruit comes from Avize. Seven plots make up the blend, split between the plain and the slope. Chemin de Chalons, Pierre Vaudon, Fosse le Prêtre and Mont Chenevaux lie on the plain, with plenty of sun and very thin topsoils, around twenty centimetres, sitting directly on chalk. Mont de Cramant is at the beginning of the slope, where the soils deepen but remain chalk-rich. Les Roches Hautes and Les Barmonts sit higher and cooler, and give the taut, linear character that runs through the finished wine. Élevage takes place in 228, 350 and 600-litre barrels, followed by four to five years on lees.
Ready now with the structure for a decade, it suits oysters, scallops or roast chicken. Serve at 8°C.
