Description
Château Barthès Bandol Rosé is a Mourvèdre-led rosé from an organically farmed family estate at Le Beausset in the heart of the appellation.
Bandol sits in a natural amphitheatre of terraced hillsides, the restanques, that curve back from the Mediterranean west of Toulon and face south towards the sea. Limestone, marl and sandstone soils, a very dry growing season and constant sea air give Mourvèdre the long, slow ripening it needs, and appellation rules require a minimum of half of it in both the reds and the rosés. Bandol rosé is a serious, gastronomic style rather than a pale aperitif wine, usually made by direct press or a short maceration, with Grenache and Cinsault filling out the Mourvèdre. Château Barthès is a family estate at Le Beausset, in the middle of the appellation, and farms organically.
Firmer and more savoury than most Provence rosé, it handles bouillabaisse, grilled red mullet and aïoli; serve at around 10 degrees rather than ice cold.
