Château Beauséjour 1er Grand Cru Classé Duffau-Lagarrosse 2022

Château Beauséjour 1er Grand Cru Classé Duffau-Lagarrosse is one of the smallest estates in the first rank of Saint-Émilion, on the côte and plateau immediately west of the town.

The property was originally part of a larger Beauséjour holding that was divided in the nineteenth century between two branches of the same family, which is why the appellation still has two châteaux of that name. The Duffau-Lagarrosse side stayed with that family for well over a century, an unusually long tenure by Bordeaux standards. The vineyard is a small one, planted mainly to Merlot with Cabernet Franc on clay and limestone, and the cellars are cut into the rock below. It was named a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the first Saint-Émilion classification of 1955 and has held that rank ever since.

A wine to keep; give it years in a cool cellar and a decant before serving with roast lamb, veal or game.
