Description

Château Beychevelle, 4ème G.C.C, 1855 is a Saint-Julien classed growth whose ship and griffin label is among the best known in the Médoc.

Saint-Julien is the smallest of the four great communal appellations of the Médoc, and almost all of its vineyard is in classified hands. Beychevelle sits at the southern end of it, on gravel rises that fall gently towards the estuary; the stones hold heat and drainage is sharp, conditions that suit Cabernet Sauvignon. The name is usually traced to the Duc d'Épernon, Grand Admiral of France in the late sixteenth century, whose ships were saluted with lowered sails as they passed the property. The château itself, rebuilt in the eighteenth century, is one of the most photographed buildings in the whole of the Médoc.

Serve with lamb, beef or game, and decant if the wine is young.
