Description
Château Branaire-Ducru is a benchmark Left Bank Bordeaux from Saint-Julien, an appellation prized for its balance of power and polish between the grandeur of Pauillac and the elegance of Margaux.
The estate's history dates to 1680, when Jean-Baptiste Braneyre first recognised the potential of this gravelly land, with the current neo-classical château built in 1824. Classified as one of the original Fourth Growths in 1855, Branaire-Ducru has been owned by the Maroteaux family since 1988, with Patrick Maroteaux's restoration work continued today by his son François-Xavier. The 60-hectare vineyard, planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon alongside Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, sits on warm gravel and alluvial soils that allow the fruit to reach excellent ripeness, giving the wines their characteristic structure, precision and ageing potential.
Structured, layered and long, this is a serious Bordeaux suited to cellaring or pairing with substantial meat dishes.
