Description

Château Carbonneau Verrière Rouge is a Merlot-led red from the eastern edge of Bordeaux.

Sainte-Foy Côtes de Bordeaux is a small appellation on the right bank of the Dordogne, between Bordeaux and Bergerac, with clay and limestone slopes and far less renown than the names to its west. Château Carbonneau is a nineteenth-century property at Pessac-sur-Dordogne run by Jacqui and Wilfrid Franc de Ferrière, farmed organically and certified. Merlot leads the blend with Cabernet Sauvignon behind it; fermentation is in temperature-controlled tanks and ageing is in vat and used oak, so the fruit stays direct.

Serve at 16 to 17 degrees with roast beef, duck or a mushroom tart. Drinkable now, better over five years.
