Description

Château Carbonnieux Rouge is a red from Pessac-Léognan, made at one of the oldest and largest estates of the Graves.

The property's history reaches back to the Middle Ages, and it was farmed for a long period by the Benedictine monks of Sainte-Croix in Bordeaux, who are credited with the story, very likely embellished, of selling Carbonnieux's white wine to the Ottoman court as mineral water. It is one of the few châteaux classified as a Cru Classé de Graves for both its red and its white. The Perrin family has owned it since 1956 and works a large vineyard on the deep gravel soils south of the city. The red is led by Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, and is matured in French oak barrels, a portion of them new each year.

Suited to lamb, beef and grilled meats, and drinkable a little earlier than most Médoc classed growths; a short decant is enough.
