Description

Château Certan de May is a Pomerol from a very small holding on the plateau, ringed by the most celebrated names in the appellation.

The vineyard covers only a few hectares of the Pomerol plateau, next door to Vieux Château Certan and within sight of Pétrus, on the clay and gravel that make this the most sought after ground in Libourne. Pomerol has never been classified and carries no hierarchy on the label, so a property's standing here rests entirely on what is in the bottle. Certan de May remains family owned and is made in small volume, with Merlot forming the majority of the blend, filled out by Cabernet Franc and a little Cabernet Sauvignon, and matured in oak barrel.

Decant and serve at around 17 degrees, with beef, game or a well hung duck; it is worth keeping for ten years or more.
