Château Clarke Listrac-Médoc 2020

Château Clarke Listrac-Médoc is a supple Left Bank Bordeaux built on Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Rothschild-owned estate at Listrac.

An Irish family owned the estate in the eighteenth century and gave it its name. Baron Edmond de Rothschild bought it in 1973, replanted the vineyard and rebuilt the cellars, and it is now the flagship of the family's Bordeaux holdings. Inland from the Gironde, the clay-limestone soils hold water well and favour Merlot, which leads the blend. Each parcel is fermented separately before around eighteen months in French oak, some of it new.

Medium-weight and supple, with dark plum and a gently earthy, savoury finish. Half an hour in a decanter helps. Try it at 16–18°C with duck, mushroom dishes or a simple roast.
