Description
Château Clerc Milon, Grand Cru Classé is a Fifth Growth of Pauillac, drawn from parcels lying between Château Lafite and Château Mouton Rothschild.
Baron Philippe de Rothschild bought the estate in 1970, when it was in poor repair, and it has been rebuilt steadily since, with a new gravity-fed cellar completed in 2011. The vineyard sits on gravel croupes close to the Gironde in the north of Pauillac, planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a small parcel of Carmenère, a variety that has all but vanished from Bordeaux. The wine is matured in French oak, a good proportion of it new. The label carries a pair of eighteenth century gold and enamel dancing figures, drawn from the Rothschild family's art collection.
Serve with roast lamb, beef or game birds; decant younger bottles, as the wine typically asks for ten years or so in the cellar to show at its best.
