Château Clinet 2022

Château Clinet is a Merlot-led Pomerol from the gravel and clay plateau at the heart of the appellation.

Pomerol has never been classified, which means a reputation there rests on the wine itself rather than on a table drawn up in the nineteenth century. The commune is small, its properties tiny by Médoc standards, and its finest sites sit on a plateau of gravel over clay with a seam of iron-rich subsoil beneath. Clinet lies on that plateau, in company with some of the most sought-after names in Bordeaux, and is planted chiefly to the Merlot that suits heavy ground, with a little Cabernet Sauvignon for structure. The estate has been in the hands of the Laborde family since the late 1990s, with Ronan Laborde directing it, and the wine is matured in French oak barrels.

It rewards a decade or more in the cellar and suits roast beef, duck or hard cheeses, served at around 17 degrees.
