Description

Le C de Sec is the dry white of Château Closiot, the Barsac property bought by Burgundian winemaker Jean-Marie Guffens.

Barsac is best known for sweet wine, but its limestone plateau also grows dry whites of real substance, and this is one of them. Guffens, who established Guffens-Heynen and Verget in the Mâconnais, acquired the historic Château Closiot from the Belgian wine writer Bernard Sirot. The estate covers eight hectares on the Clos Bonneau, where red earth scattered with pebbles rests on the limestone base typical of the plateau, surrounded by Climens, Doisy-Védrines and Coutet. The clos is planted mainly to Sémillon and includes a four-hectare parcel of century-old vines. The dry wine adds a portion of the increasingly rare Sauvignon Gris, and the fruit is vinified entirely in barrel with around 25% new oak, which gives the wine its breadth and grip.

Drink now or cellar for five to eight years. Serve at 10 to 12°C with grilled prawns, roast chicken or a gratin of white fish.
