Château de Beaucastel Côtes-du-Rhône Coudoulet Rouge 2022

Château de Beaucastel Côtes-du-Rhône Coudoulet Rouge is a red Cotes du Rhone from a vineyard that faces the Beaucastel estate across the appellation boundary.

Coudoulet sits directly across the road from the Beaucastel vineyard, on the far side of the boundary that separates Chateauneuf-du-Pape from the surrounding Cotes du Rhone, which is why it is often described as the estate's junior wine. The soils are much the same mix of galets roulés and clay, and the vineyard is farmed to the same organic and biodynamic standards as the home property. The Perrin family have held Beaucastel since the early twentieth century. The red blends Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah and Cinsault, with each variety fermented separately before assembly, and it is aged in large old oak foudres rather than new barrels. The result is a wine cut from the same cloth as the Chateauneuf but ready considerably sooner.

Serve at around 16 degrees with grilled meats, sausages or a hearty stew; which suits a longer stay in the cellar.
