Description
Château de Beaucastel Coudoulet Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc is a white Cotes du Rhone made from a vineyard that lies just outside the Chateauneuf-du-Pape boundary, opposite the Beaucastel estate itself.
Coudoulet sits directly across the road from the Beaucastel vineyard, on the far side of the boundary that separates Chateauneuf-du-Pape from the surrounding Cotes du Rhone, which is why it is often described as the estate's junior wine. The soils are much the same mix of galets roulés and clay, and the vineyard is farmed to the same organic and biodynamic standards as the home property. The Perrin family have held Beaucastel since the early twentieth century. The white is a blend of Bourboulenc, Marsanne, Viognier and Clairette, an old fashioned southern Rhone combination that has largely given way to easier varieties elsewhere. Fermentation is carried out at cool temperatures and the wine is bottled without heavy oak influence, which keeps it fresh and direct.
Serve well chilled, at around 10 to 12 degrees, with grilled fish, chicken or a plate of olives and charcuterie.
