Description
Château de Chamboureau Savennières 'Champ de la Hutte' is a dry Chenin Blanc from Savennieres, one of the Loire's smallest and most distinctive white wine appellations.
Savennieres is a small appellation on the north bank of the Loire just downstream of Angers, where steep slopes of schist and volcanic rock face south towards the river. It is one of the few places given over entirely to dry Chenin Blanc, and the combination of poor rocky soils, low yields and a sheltered aspect makes wines that are famously slow to open and very long lived. Chenin is picked late here, often in several passes, and matured without heavy oak. Champ de la Hutte is a named parcel bottled separately, a common practice in an appellation where soils change markedly over short distances.
Serve at around 10 to 12 degrees with roast chicken, pork or firm river fish, and give young bottles time in the glass; wines from Savennieres reward patience in the cellar.
