Description
Château de Chamirey Mercurey Blanc Premier Cru 'La Mission' Monopole Blanc is a white Burgundy from a premier cru vineyard owned outright by a single estate.
Mercurey is the largest appellation of the Cote Chalonnaise, the stretch of Burgundy running south of the Cote de Beaune, and is planted mainly to Pinot Noir with a smaller share of Chardonnay. The hills here are higher and more broken than the Cote d'Or and the vineyards face in many directions, which is why individual sites matter. Chateau de Chamirey is one of the best known estates of the commune and is run by the Devillard family. La Mission is a monopole, meaning the whole climat belongs to a single owner, which is uncommon at premier cru level anywhere in Burgundy. Mercurey has more than thirty premier crus, and while most are planted to Pinot Noir, a few are given over to Chardonnay. The fruit is whole bunch pressed and matured in barrel, with new oak kept in check.
Serve at about 12 degrees with roast poultry, veal or richer fish dishes; it is worth keeping for a few years before opening.
