Description
Château de Chamirey Mercurey Rouge is a red Burgundy from Mercurey, the largest and best known appellation of the Cote Chalonnaise.
Mercurey is the largest appellation of the Cote Chalonnaise, the stretch of Burgundy running south of the Cote de Beaune, and is planted mainly to Pinot Noir with a smaller share of Chardonnay. The hills here are higher and more broken than the Cote d'Or and the vineyards face in many directions, which is why individual sites matter. Chateau de Chamirey is one of the best known estates of the commune and is run by the Devillard family. Pinot Noir accounts for most plantings here, and the appellation has long been the place to look for red Burgundy of real character without Cote d'Or prices. The estate blends parcels from across its holdings for this bottling and ages the wine in oak barrels, only a small proportion of them new.
Serve at around 16 degrees with roast chicken, charcuterie or a mushroom risotto; it is enjoyable young and will keep for several years.
