Château de Coulaine Chinon 375ml 2023

Château de Coulaine Chinon is an organically farmed Cabernet Franc from an estate that has stayed in the same family since the fifteenth century.

Chinon lies in Touraine where the Vienne meets the Loire, and its reds are almost entirely Cabernet Franc, grown either on the light sandy gravel of the valley floor, which gives supple early drinking wines, or on the clay and limestone slopes and plateau, which give firmer, longer lived ones. Coulaine sits at Beaumont-en-Véron, west of the town, and works parcels across both soil types. The estate has been farmed organically since the 1990s, with certification, and picks by hand. Fruit is destemmed, fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete and raised without new oak so that the variety's leafy, savoury character comes through unmasked.

Fresh, savoury and lightly grippy, it goes with charcuterie, roast pork, rillettes and vegetable dishes, and takes a slight chill; serve at fifteen to sixteen degrees.
