Château de Coulaine Chinon blanc Clos de la Cure 2022

Château de Coulaine Chinon blanc Clos de la Cure is a Chenin Blanc from a single walled parcel in Chinon, raised in sandstone amphora.

White wine is a small part of Chinon, an appellation dominated by Cabernet Franc on the terraces and slopes between the Vienne and the Loire, and only Chenin Blanc may be used for it. Château de Coulaine has been in the same family since the fifteenth century and farms organically on clay-limestone north of the river. Clos de la Cure is a walled parcel bottled on its own and matured in sandstone amphora rather than oak, a vessel that allows a slow, gentle exchange of air without adding wood flavour, so the wine gains texture while keeping the clarity of the site. It is a small cuvee, made in limited quantity.

Dry, saline and textural; serve at 11 to 12 degrees with shellfish, roast white fish or veal.
